For collectors and automotive enthusiasts, opportunities like this are exceptionally rare.
A Ferrari Testarossa design concept model from the early 1980s, created and used by Pininfarina during the final design phase of one of Ferrari’s most iconic cars, is coming to auction. This is not a scale model produced for marketing purposes, but a true design study believed to be unique, used internally to shape the final form of the Testarossa before its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 1984.
The Testarossa would go on to become one of the most recognizable supercars of the 1980s, combining dramatic styling with Ferrari’s flat-12 engine and a name drawn from the legendary 250 Testa Rossa race cars of the late 1950s. Few objects capture that moment in Ferrari history as directly as this model.
Constructed on a flat steel frame and finished with resin bodywork, the concept model was acquired directly from Ferrari S.p.A. at a factory auction in 2009 and has since undergone a full restoration by Ferrari itself. It is accompanied by a certificate of origin, reinforcing its importance as a piece of Ferrari heritage and making it suitable for private collections or museum display.
Estimated between EUR 25,000 and EUR 50,000 and offered without reserve, this lot represents a compelling opportunity for collectors who value design provenance, rarity, and cultural significance as much as performance.
At Christie’s International Real Estate Malta, we often work with clients whose interests extend beyond property into art, design, and collectible assets. For those interested in this lot, we would be pleased to facilitate introductions and connect you with the auction house to participate in the bidding process.
If Ferrari design history speaks to you, this is a moment worth exploring.
